BURNING INSTRUCTIONS FOR JAR CANDLES

ALWAYS burn on heat resistant surface.

NEVER LEAVE A BURNING CANDLE UNATTENDED.

Keep away from children and pets.

  1. Remove any raffia or wrapping from your candle before burning.
  2. Trim wick with wick trimmer to 1/4 inch.
  3. Light wick.
  4. Check your candle flame, a few minutes after lighting.  When wax starts melting, it levels out, thus your flame may be higher than is appropriate for burning in your candle.   If the flame is over ½ - ¾ inches high, the wick needs to be slightly trimmed.  Extinguish flame, trim slightly, light the wick again.  Check flame height.  A flame that is ½ - ¾ of an inch high, is the perfect flame height for a candle.
  5. Once you have your perfect flame, due to trimming of the wick, you may let your candle burn for many hours, checking the flame height occasionally, during your candle burning session.
  6. On the first burn of your candle, it is important to burn the candle until you achieve a full melt pool of wax.  This means that the wax will be melted completely to the sides of the jar, and you will have at least ½ inch of melted wax in your candle jar.  This will take approximately one hour for every inch of diameter of your jar.  By doing this, you will not have tunneling of your candle.  Tunneling is when the candle burns down the middle of the wax, leaving unused wax on the side of the jar.

IMPORTANT:  Wicks need to be trimmed during your burning sessionBurning session is any time candle flame is burning.  If flame is high or smoking the wick needs to be trimmed.  Extinguish the flame, trim wick and relight.  Wicks are not self-trimming and need to be trimmed periodically while burning your candle.  It is very important that you occasionally check your candle flame.

If you experience black on your jars, your wicks are not being trimmed properly.  Black smoke is emitted from a flame, if  the flame is too high.  Too high of a flame is caused by too long of a wick.  If wicks are properly trimmed there is never any reason for black smoke.  PLEASE, keep those wicks trimmed! Be safe and smart with your candles.

Keep away from any flammable materials.

Keep away from drafts.  A draft will make for an uneven burn of your candle and also can make your flame produce black smoke.

Do not burn to less than 1/2 inch from bottom of jar.

If you follow these burning instructions, you should have a clean, long burning candle.
